Six things carry most of the weight. You can check every one of them yourself before you ask for a price.

How do you prepare an iPhone before selling it?
Do these steps in order. Signing out must come before the erase, because that is what removes Activation Lock.
- Back up. Go to Settings > [your name] > iCloud > iCloud Backup and tap Back Up Now, or back up to a computer.
- Unpair your Apple Watch. In the Watch app, open All Watches, tap the info button next to the watch and choose Unpair Apple Watch.
- Sign out of your Apple Account. Go to Settings > [your name], scroll to the bottom and tap Sign Out. Enter your password when asked. This turns off Find My.
- Erase the phone. Go to Settings > General > Transfer or Reset iPhone > Erase All Content and Settings.
- Take out the SIM. If you use an eSIM, ask your carrier how to move the number to your new phone.
- Gather what you have. Wipe the phone clean and collect the box and charger if you still have them.

What happens at the inspection?
The iPhone is inspected in front of you. Expect the inspection to cover the same points that decide its value: the model and storage, the physical condition, whether it works properly, and whether it is still locked to an Apple Account.
After the inspection you are given a final offer. It can differ from the website estimate if the phone is in a different condition from the one you selected. You are free to accept the offer or decline it.
